Tog Studio has delivered their first permanent building at their second livebuild summer school on the Isle of Tiree. In just seven days a team of 13 architecture and engineering students built a new community boathouse with expert on-site assistance from leading industry suppliers.
The design features a ply box portal frame which was CNC-routed at the MAKLab before being partially pre-fabricated at the Gal Gael Trust workshops in Glasgow.
“It was important that the project felt like a boathouse which was unique to the island. The primary design move to achieve this is the curved frame and ridge; externally this references the traditional Tiree black-top roof whilst internally the structure was imagined as an upturned boat.” Micheal Holliday, Director, Tog Studio
